Casual & Part- Time Retail Sales

Location: Byron Bay, NSW

Type: Casual / Part-Time (Permanent)

We are looking for warm, customer focused Casual and Part-Time and Retail Sales Assistants to join the HOPE AND MAY team at our Byron Bay store. We require flexibility to optimise performance during peak trading periods including weekends and holidays. You will play a vital role in creating a welcoming in-store experience for every customer who walks through the door.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Welcome customers with warmth and professionalism, providing a personalised and attentive service experience
  • Develop thorough product knowledge and confidently communicate the HOPE AND MAY  story and brand values
  • Process sales transactions accurately using our POS system
  • Assist with stock management, including receiving deliveries, replenishment and stocktakes
  • Maintain visual merchandising and store presentation standards to reflect the HOPE AND MAY aesthetic
  • Support the team during busy periods, including weekends, public holidays and seasonal peaks
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative and fun team environment

Experience & Qualifications

  • Previous customer service experience of 3 year minimum in premium retail environments, preferably fashion or luxury brands
  • Demonstrated success in team development and performance optimization with measurable results
  • Proven track record of achieving and exceeding commercial targets and operational KPIs
  • A natural communicator who enjoys connecting with customers
  • Reliable, punctual and a great team player
  • Flexible availability across weekdays and weekends

Retail Manager

Location: Byron Bay, NSW

Type: Full time (Permanent, Hybrid)

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to be the cornerstone of HOPE AND MAY’s return to Australian retail. As our Retail Manager, you will own the day-to-day and strategic operations of our Byron Bay flagship store and lay the groundwork for a growing network of locations across Australia. You are a natural leader, deeply organised, and passionate about delivering an exceptional in-store experience that reflects the vision of the HOPE AND MAY brand. You'll strategically manage all aspects of boutique operations while mentoring the Casual & Part-Time Sales Associates and developing a high-performing team that consistently exceeds customer expectations and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Store Operations

  • Oversee all day-to-day retail operations at the Byron Bay flagship store, ensuring seamless and elevated customer experiences at every touchpoint
  • Develop, document and continuously improve operational processes, procedures and standards that can be scaled as we open new locations
  • Manage inventory, stock replenishment, visual merchandising standards, and store presentation in line with brand guidelines
  • Monitor store performance metrics (sales, conversion, ATV) and report to the founders with insights and recommendations
  • Liaise with 3PL, logistics providers and other external partners to ensure smooth stock flow

People & Team Leadership

  • Lead the recruitment and onboarding of all retail staff — casual, part-time and full-time — ensuring team members embody the HOPE AND MAY values and service ethos.
  • Build and manage team rosters and scheduling, ensuring appropriate coverage across all trading hours, including weekends and peak periods
  • Conduct regular performance check-ins, provide ongoing coaching and development, and handle any HR matters in line with Australian employment law
  • Create a positive, supportive team culture where staff feel valued, motivated and connected to the brand mission.
  • As the retail footprint grows, support the hiring and onboarding of store teams in new locations

Growth & Strategy

  • Partner closely with the founders to plan for new store openings across Australia, contributing operational expertise to site setup, fit-out logistics and team builds
  • Identify opportunities to improve the customer experience, streamline operations and increase profitability
  • Champion the HOPE AND MAY brand in everything you do — acting as an ambassador in the local community and beyond

Experience & Qualifications

  • Previous customer service experience of 3 year minimum in premium retail environments, preferably fashion or luxury brands
  • Experience managing multi-site retail operations is highly regarded
  • Strong people leadership skills — you hire well, lead with empathy and bring out the best in your team
  • Confident with rostering, scheduling and all aspects of workforce management
  •  Demonstrated success in team development and performance optimization with measurable results
  • Proven track record of achieving and exceeding commercial targets and operational KPIs
  • Experience managing P&L responsibility and budget oversight 
  • Passionate about customer-centric service delivery with consultative selling expertise
  • Deep understanding of fashion trends and ability to translate market insights into commercial strategies
  • Flexible availability to work varied hours including weekends, evenings, and peak trading periods
  • Natural leader with authentic presence and ability to build trust across all levels
